Walking with podcast

I’m lacking motivation and don’t know how to get out of my “funk”.

We’ve all been there, woken up in a strange mood, not knowing why we feel the way we do.  We go through the same motions that we go through every morning but remain in the strange mood, unless (or until) something happens that makes us start to feel better and eventually snap out of it.

What is that ‘something’ for you?

I’m heading towards retirement and unsure how to prepare for this transition.

Retirement – it’s quite a powerful word, often portrayed with images of an elderly white haired couple walking hand in hand down a sandy beach at sunset without a care in the world.

The reality can be quite different.

The most obvious difference is that you might not be part of a couple.  You may be alone through choice, or you might have lost your partner, through death or divorce.

Friendship

Friendship and boundaries

One of the phrases I seem to say most often to my children and husband is “we know that friends can be so disappointing”.

As a family we have very high expectations of our friends and every time they do or don’t do something that we would like them to, we get upset and vow to never speak to them again and cross them off our (fictitious) Christmas card list!

But of course, we don’t.

“My worries are nothing compared to what’s going on in Ukraine – I really shouldn’t complain.”

How many times have you hear that recently?  A friend said this to me yesterday and it made me feel quite sad that they didn’t feel their sadness warranted any airtime.  They didn't want to talk about what they felt was a mundane worry when others were losing their homes and lives in a war that was not of their making.

career change

How do I find my dream job?  Will it give me work/life balance?

“The division of one's time and focus between working and family or leisure activities.”

So, this is a definition of work/life balance, a phrase that we constantly hear banded about.  It seems like an obvious concept - we should enjoy work while we are at it, but we should also enjoy the rest of our life – so have a balance in how we spend our days. Or we should at least earn enough money so that we can enjoy our life outside of work.

Is life coaching worth it? I want to make a change my life but not sure how to start.

I get asked this question a lot, mainly by people who haven't been coached before and do not understand the value. Why would you pay someone to listen to you talk for an hour? Surely, we can do this with friends and family.

And of course we can.

Inspirational quotes, pandemic or endemic?

Are we in an inspirational quote pandemic or has it become endemic in our lives?

Believe you can and you're halfway there." - Theodore Roosevelt

"The best view comes after the hardest climb."

"Don't worry if you're not where you want to be yet, great things take time."

"You are the artist of your life, don't hand the paintbrush to anyone else."

We all love a motivational message or an inspirational quote and social media makes it so easy to share these messages.

Am I just fitting-in or do I really belong?

Every morning I listen to a podcast while walking my dogs and I have to say it is probably the most educational time of my day!  I think even the poor dogs realise that the walk is more for me than it is for them, but I suppose we all benefit in some way – they get to sniff everything they come across and I get to expand my horizons by listening to other people talk about their issues, their failures, their successes, their hopes and dreams.

Why Life Coaching and Why Ruby Sky?

Getting this website up and running was a very exciting moment as my Life Coaching journey started during one of the many lockdowns last year and, post Christmas when the threatened lockdowns didn't materialise (I had given my family one of my "no lockdown" guarantees and was clearly right) I realised that we have all come a long way since then and the future is somewhat brighter.

comparison anxiety

All my friends are more successful than me - comparison anxiety!

Ever heard the expression "Comparison is the thief of joy" (by Theodore Roosevelt)? I'm sure you have, as it has been used in many articles, podcasts and probably in coaching blogs! So, what does it mean? We are told that if we compare ourselves to others, we may be left with feelings of inferiority or superiority and neither creates an emotionally healthy human being!

family conflict festive period

The inner conflict – are you a child or an adult when you are back home?

Here we are at the beginning of a new year with all our resolutions or affirmations firmly in place and we can look back at the last 10 days or so when many people went back to their family home to spend the festive period.

So, was it festive?

How do you know if you're going through a Quarter-Life Crisis – 3 signs to look for.

“He lives with his girlfriend and cat - he’s a real adult.” This is a word for word quote from my 23-year-old daughter when describing someone she works with. So, it got me thinking, what is a real adult?

Annoying habits - how important is “chemistry” in a life coaching relationship?

We all know about the importance of ‘chemistry’ when talking about romantic relationships and that ‘spark’ when you meet someone for the first time.  But we don’t often talk about chemistry in relation to work or friendships for that matter.

Is coaching for me and what is it all about?

Chances are that you will have heard the term ‘Life Coach’ banded around, and, although you know what it ‘probably’ means, you may not know what Life Coaching is all about.
